Teresa Deevy's Wife to James Whelan

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

This lecture focused on Teresa Deevy's play written in 1940 but rejected for production by the Abbey Theatre. The lecture considers how Deevy represented the premature ageing of those women in Irish society who did not fill the role of wife and considers the play as a subversive response to Bunreacht na hÉireann (1937).
