Biography

Dr Frances Finn is a lecturer in the Department of Nursing and Health Care and course leader for the Master of Science in Nursing. Frances has extensive professional nursing experience in the USA, UK and Ireland with clinical roles in emergency and critical care settings. She has also worked as Educator for pre-hospital paramedic training; a Director of Education for acute health services and an Education Consultant for a variety of health care organisations including an International Telehealth Service. Her current role inovlves teaching and supervising students across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in nursing and health care, in addition to working with clinical partners through her link lecturer role. Frances is actively involved with quality initiatives and curriculum development within the Department of Nursing and Health Care and works as an external examiner and programme validator for other Higher Education Institutes. 

Research Interests

With an interest in connected health and care of the older adult, Frances has been inovlved in several projects in this field including: an evaluation of telehealth training and learning tranfer; an exploration of supportive housing with care for older adults; and a telehealth intervention for chronic disease management within the South East of Ireland. 

Frances's research interests also lie in the area of work integrated/work-based learning and the influences and outcomes of these partnership approaches to education. She is currently undertaking an international project on work integrated learning, industry partherships, practices and policy within Ireland and South Africa. Frances holds a Doctorate of Education from the University of Bristol, UK, with a thesis entitled 'Work-based learning influences, outcomes and sustainability in postgraduate nurse education: a case study'. Methods expertise includes qualitative case study and causal process tracing.
