Biography

Robin Flynn graduated from University College Dublin with a BSc (Hons) in zoology in 2004. He undertook an IRC funded PhD, supervised by Prof Grace Mulcahy, at UCD School of Veterinary Medicine between 2004-2007. During this period he worked on the impact of Fasciola hepatica infection on host immunity and immunoregulation during co-infection. Following his PhD he undertook a period of postdoctoral training with Dr Andrew McKenzie at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology Cambridge. Here he was engaged in work attempting to identify the source and role of IL-25 in allergic airway disease and parasite infection. In 2009 he moved to the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine & Science where he became a Lecturer and established his own group working on the host immune response to parasite infection and understanding this for the purpose of improving vaccines and diagnostics. In 2014 he completed his post-graduate certificate in higher education and in 2015 he became an associate professor. In 2016 Robin moved to the Department of Infection Biology at IGH (now IVES) Liverpool where his group continued to work on the same themes, from 2018 until 2020 Robin was the Institute Director for Postgraduate Research at the same Insitute.

In 2020 Robin returned to Ireland and in 2021 he took up his current post split between WIT and IT Carlow working on merging the Graduate Studies Offices of both Institutes in preparation for designation as a Technological University.
