Personal profile

Biography

As a Professor of Finance in the School of Business my current role involves teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervising PhD and DBA students and leading the research group, The Centre for Finance and Business Research. Previously I taught at all levels across the college and and spent two years teaching in a third level college in Malaysia before completing my PhD at the University of Nottingham. Subsequently I spent a sabbatical at the University of Exeter and the University of Sydney. I have also significant curriculum development and administration experience having co-led the development of the Masters in Business Studies (MBS) programme and served as Programme Director of the MBS Economics and Finance stream for fifteen years. I have also served as an External Examiner on Finance courses in both Irish and Scottish universities. Currently I am joint editor of the Accounting, Finance and Governance Review and Associate editor of the Journal of Risk Finance. Together with collaborators our work has been published in the Journal of Corporate Finance, The European Journal of Finance, Financial Accountability and Managment and in the Journal of Risk Finance. 

Our work in The Centre for Finance and Business Research spans the themes: Behavioural Finance, Governance and Corporate Responsibility, Personal Finance, Small Firm Finance, Accounting Education, Fintech and Digitial Financial Services and Labour Market Policy. Research output is disseminated in various forums and we host seminars and workshops with strong enagement with practictioners and policy-makers

Teaching;

My current teaching at undergraduate level includes the modules: Financial Institutions and Markets and Investments. My postgraduate teaching includes delivery of the following modules: Contemporary Issues in Business, Governance and Ethics and International Study Trip.

Honours and awards:

National Teaching Hero Award from the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in Ireland.
