Biography

Dr Susan Flynn is Head of Department of Arts at South East Technological University. Susan holds a PhD in Equality Studies and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK and a Research Associate of the Equality Studies Centre in UCD. She has lectured, researched and led a number of projects centred on education, digital technologies and equality, diversity and inclusion. Before joining SETU Waterford, Susan was Director of eduCORE research centre at Institute of Technology Carlow, and previously had lecturing and Programme Director roles in the UK, China, and Ireland. 

Research Interests

Susan's research centres on the sociology of equality, culture, media, space and place. She is a member of 'Practice-Led Arts and Creative Engagement' (PLACE) working group. Susan is editor of 9 books and author of multiple peer reviewed academic articles and book chapters.

Current EU Research Projects:

EU COST Action, 'Transnational Family Dynamics in Europe' management committee member.

EU Conexus 'Community Engagement through Arts and Culture', work package member.

EU CITO project member.

Teaching

Susan has previously lectured at University College Dublin, University of the Arts London, Hong Kong University, and was Director of eduCORE research centre at Institute of Technology Carlow. Susan currently teaches EDI for Transformative Research on the structured PhD Programme at SETU
