Abstract

The present invention relates to an isolated nucleotide sequence and corresponding polypeptide derived from the ni- o trile-metabolising Pantoea strain deposited under NCIMB 41854. Said isolated polypeptide acts as a nitrilase and the invention exends to a process producing a carboxylic acid using said isolated polypeptide to
metabolise nitriles such as 3-hydroxyglutaronitrile, 3-hydroxybutyronitrile and 3- hydroxy-phenylpropionitrile to form corresponding carboxylic acids.
